Arc Race

ARC Race

The ARC Race is an annual event which attracts around 200 boats and 1,200 people a year to sail 2,800 nautical miles from Gran Canaria to St Lucia. This is a race which is perfect for sailors of any ability level, whether you’re a family team in a modestly priced boat or serious competitive racers, and this really isn’t just about the yachting – there is so much more to the ARC.

The race starts at Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and is the perfect spot for boats about to embark on a journey across the Atlantic. It is situated at the edge of the tradewind belt, with the ARC taking advantage of this by starting in late November when the tradewinds are established. The race ends in the Caribbean at the end of hurricane season.

Before you start the race, all racers are invited to participate in the fortnight of bonding activities which carry on over the race’s radio network once at sea. This allows every member of your team to have fun and get to know the other yachting enthusiasts, which means you get to come away with much more than just your final position in the race.

If you’re interested in participating in the ARC and want to get your yacht into prime condition before the race, contact Island Charters to find out about our yacht management service.
