RORC Cherbourg Race

RORC Cherbourg Race

The RORC (Royal Ocean Racing Club) Cherbourg Race is a relatively short race comprising a 75 mile race from Cowes on the Isle of Wight to Cherbourg in France. The race takes place every September, and is suitable for crew members who have some previous sailing experience. Ideally, racers should have more than the basic qualification of RYA Competent Crew.

This cross-channel race is growing in popularity, with many sailors enjoying the high speeds achieved from the Solent across into French waters. It is the last event in the RORC calendar in the Solent, so is one of your last opportunities to get out on the water for some late-season offshore sailing.

Once at the Yacht Club de Cherbourg, there is a fantastic party atmosphere for the crews to enjoy and celebrate their achievements, and it will give everyone the chance to reminisce and share their experiences of the entire season. There is a vast variety of boats participating to make for a diverse and interesting race year on year.

Island Charters is based on the Solent, and has many years of experience with yachts and racing. If you’ve been inspired by the race and want to charter a yacht of your own, get in touch to discuss your requirements.
