Round the Island Race

Round the Island Race

The Round the Island Race is a one day yacht race around the Isle of Wight, and takes place once a year. A blend of seasoned professionals and complete beginners attend the race each year to compete on the Solent, with more than 1,700 yachts and 16,000 sailors participating each year.  It is one of the biggest yachting events in the world, with participants and spectators coming from all over the UK and the rest of the world to join in and watch the race.

The race starts at 5am in Cowes on the Royal Yacht Squadron line and travels westabout the island before the yachts cross the line again in Cowes to complete the day’s racing. It’s an exciting event for yachting enthusiasts and complete novices, and it is a family friendly event which kids will enjoy too. You can find out about the yachts and take advantage of the hospitality on offer including catering and drinks, so even if you’re not a yachting expert you can still enjoy watching the majestic yachts pass by on the beautiful Isle of Wight.

Everyone who participates in the event will receive a memento of the day, and there are more than 60 prizes awarded to teams. It is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with an interest in yachts to get involved and test their skills against world-class sailors.
