RSYS Frostbite Series

RSYS Frostbite Series

Feeling a little ‘stodgy’ after Christmas? A little slow on your pins as the New Year dawns? As your non-sailing friends are bemoaning the boredom of having to return to the gym or the treadmill and the rowing machine, you and your crew could be a full-on-fun sailing workout at the Royal Southampton Yacht Club’s Frostbite Series.

This regatta series is run on alternate Sunday mornings from January to March. The racing takes place in Southampton Water over short courses with two races scheduled each day. It is brilliant racing: the topography of Southampton Water and the prevailing wind direction means that course legs are usually very short and there are numerous mark-roundings. The races are sailed in flat water, so no nasty winter waves over the deck and this means that your crew are constantly busy and involved so they will stay warm and focussed whatever the weather.

Racing at the Frostbite Series is guaranteed to up your race-game: you will see the performance of both helm and crew and your boat handling improve in giant leaps as the series progresses. Better still, the intention of the host club is to have both races completed by lunchtime in order to enable all of the race crews to head back to the Royal Southampton Yacht Club (which is in Southampton’s Ocean Village) for the inevitable post-race banter, the weekly prize-giving and a superb Sunday roast!

Boats from 20 to 50 feet take part in the Frostbite Series. Island Charters will help you select the very best boat for your purpose from the Island Charters fleet to precisely suit your level of experience and that of your crew, positioning you to perform well from the off. Please contact the team from Island Charters to find out more.
